Ivermectin does not kill the adults. it will only kill the babies. if your dog is currently on ivermectin for heartworm disease, it can take years before the adults die off. the best thing for your dog is to go through the immiticide treatment, unless of course your dog is too sick to go through it. once your dog is treated with immiticide it needs to be on ivermectin for at least a year and then can be switched to interceptor or sentinel provided the dog tests negative for heartworms. sometimes a second treatment with immiticide is needed as all the adults may not die with the first treatment. as far as a dose, you need to get that from your vet. too much ivermectin can kill.
